With stereo minidisc sound recording (sounds better on good speakers). Performed at London Hyde Park, 29th June 2008, th last ever UK performance of The Police as their portentous World tour draws to a close.

I love the jazz fusion that Summers brings into this piece, peppering it with 9 shapes and lots of other exotic sounds. Indeed the original chord structure of Roxanne is quite exotic, but sadly the syncopated manner and clangy distorted tele that Andy played in the original recording of the song makes them sound a bit brash. Played on an acoustic they're great chords!

The sound and video were recorded separately and combined together later.

Sound - I used a Sony Minidisc recorder MZ-R900 with CD quality (no compression) setting, and a portable stereo mic, set to low sensitivity & low gain (no auto-levels as this loses a lot of dynamics and gives severe distortion on the deep bass). Despite careful settings, some distortion did occur - it is a rock concert after all!

Video - taken with Kodak Z712 at 320x240, 30 fps. Great quality lens, but the autofocus sometimes focuses on nearby clapping hands rather than zoomed up band members. It also eats batteries!!

Editing: Video Edit Magic 4 - sound was manually synchronised to video on the basis of Sting and Andy's playing (and not the screen above them, which sometimes had a delay). Mixed down in VirtualDub, with audio at 320 kbps, divx avi quality around 2.5 (approx quantizer value if single pass, though 2-pass encoding was actually used)...

...Then youtube wrecked the quality! An already quite compressed 50MB .avi has been turned into a 15MB .flv!...maismenos
